According to the Tampa Bay Business Journal a new report shows Lakeland, Tampa, Jacksonville, Palm Bay and Orlando are five of the top 10 cities nationwide where buyers can find foreclosed homes at a bargain. The study by Irvine California-based RealtyTrac Inc. said the deals come as a result of a backlog of properties and abundance of distressed debt in these places On the same list were four other cities in New York, Bloomberg News said. Palm Bay leads the way with a 34-month foreclosure supply and a 28 percent average discount to homes without debt problems, the report said. Daren Blomquist, vice president at RealtyTrac, told Bloomberg that the trend is gradually improving with the underlying fundamentals in many Florida markets improving last year, giving them the ability to “absorb additional foreclosure inventory” in 2013. That is good news for buyers and investors, he said. In 2012, the number of default, auction and repossession filings were four times higher in Palm Bay than they had been in 2011, and doubled in Lakeland. During the same period, filings increased by 80 percent in Tampa, Bloomberg said.
